Journal / Wingårdhs designs new chair for Gärsnäs More information
It has the comfort of an easy chair and the lightness of a chair – we’re calling it Viva. Designed to live a long life, the chair is the latest in the line of furniture that has been developed in collaboration with furniture manufacturer Gärsnäs.
– I wanted to design a chair with a focus on comfort and sustainability. A chair that can be both beautiful to look at and long-lasting, something I have felt that the market has been lacking, says David Regestam, designer at Wingårdhs.
The Viva chair is made with genuine craftsmanship in the small town of Gärsnäs in southern Sweden, where the material suppliers are gathered nearby. It is consistently made of durable and sustainable materials, with a frame in wood and a seat of felt in recycled material. The upholstery with its sewing details can be varied in leather or textile, both to fit into different environments but also to be able to offer different price levels.
The construction makes it easy to renovate and dress, which extends the lifespan. The chair is made of two separate parts, a wooden stand and a seat. This means that the parts can be stacked individually during transport, which contributes to a space-efficient and environmentally friendly logistics.
– Viva combines a continental expression with a Scandinavian character, which means that it can function in different environments around the world. The starting point has been that the chair should be attractive from all angles and distances. The lightweight leg stand combined with the padded pillows gives the chair a vibrant silhouette and relaxed elegance, says David Regestam at Wingårdhs.
Great care has been taken to create a light piece of furniture with a slim silhouette that is also comfortable to sit in. This means that the chair can both function as an armchair, in a lounge environment or at a table at a dinner or conference.
Viva will be exhibited at the Milan Design Week in the Swedish Design Moves’ exhibition HEMMA gone wild. For more info click here.

David Regestam has previously designed table series Tak and Kolonn for the company.
