Reactionary winds are blowing through the country and architecture is in the line of fire. The debut episode discusses the comeback of the nineteenth century, the hatred of new architecture, and how old evils still haunt the debate. It is the first episode in a series of podcasts on architecture and everything it impacts—from art and climate change to beauty and politics, cities and landscapes.
The Planet is a collaboration between Wingårdh Architects and Form magazine, one of the world’s oldest design and architecture periodicals, founded in 1905. The magazine has previously produced FormRadion and Form Symposium.
“You can’t have too much talk about architecture,” says Salka Hallström Bornold, assistant chief editor at Form and the host of The Planet. “Ultimately it’s about how we ought to live, today and tomorrow. And yet there’s never been a podcast like The Planet.”
In the debut episode we tap into the hot debate about the alleged ugliness of modern architecture. How is it that the architecture of the nineteenth century has come to be held up as a stylistic ideal? The first episode of The Planet features Joakim Lyth, an architect at Wingårdh; Ola Andersson, a critic and architect at Andersson Arfwedson Architects; and Ylva Frid, a critic and architect at Arkitektstudio Witte.
The program is hosted by Salka Hallström Bornold, assistant chief editor at Form. New episodes of The Planet will be released throughout 2018 and 2019.
