Best building in Stockholm

The city of Stockholm have launched a prize for the best recent project in the city. A jury have selected ten buildings from which the citizens have selected their favourite.
The poll is the voice of the man on the street: The building for Ericsson in Kista is the winner.
The jury claimes that "the 'crack' in the facade creates tension to the entire volume and a lightwell with unique sculptural qualities."

World Architecture China

The Chinese magazine World Architecture has devoted their April issue to the works of Wingårdhs.
World Architecture has published international architecture for the domestic audience since 1980.
30 000 copies monthly makes it the largest architectural magazine in Asia. The publisher is hosted by Tsinghua University.

Karolina Keyzer new city architect in Stockholm

Karolina Keyzer have been appointed as city architect in Stockholm. The prominent position brings our long-time collaborator in a central position in a very dynamic period in the development of the capital.
Ms Keyzer has been responsible for numerous crucial projects in the city, such as Victoria Tower and Arena Gate.
We regret that her skills not will be available for us after the summer, but feel confident that her analytic approach will help the city to a better future.

Gustaf Dalén medal

Gert Wingårdh has been awarded the Gustaf Dalén medal for "his prominent achievements as innovative architect with international reputation."
The Gustaf Dalén medal is given by Chalmers Alumni Association.
Famous inventor of automatic beacons Gustaf Dalén (1869-1937) donated part of his Nobel prize in physics to his alma mater Chalmers University of Technology.

The Glass Prize for K:fem

K:fem department store has been awarded with the Swedish Glass Prize for 2010. The jury has "awarded a building that with humour and great artistic skills used the multiple expressions of glass in order to create a house for fashion with a strong identity and elegance."
The jury claims further that the design of K:fem develops glass architecture in an innovative and independent way.
K:fem has gained a great attention both locally and globally. Apart from the Glass Prize, the building has been awarded by The Local Heritage Society in Stockholm, with the Light Prize and as the best building for shopping by the World Architecture Festival 2009.

New landmark in Linköping

A multi-purpose building will be built on a very vital spot in Linköping, Sweden. The building faces the creek Stångån and uses the diverse directions of the site in its design.
There will be dwellings as well as offices and shopping in the white and transparent house.
Construction works are due to begin in 2012.

New starflyer in Stockholm

A 90-meter tall starflyer and lookout tower will be built at the amusement park Gröna Lund in Stockholm. Wingårdhs design was selected in an invited competition.
The starflyer will be the tallest in the world.
The steel trusses of the column will not only provide sufficient strength but also a sculptural silhouette, not at least in night time when the attraction will glow from within.

Kuggen under construction

Kuggen, the low-energy office building project for Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, is under construction. Kuggen is a low energy office project specially adapted to the local conditions. The triangular windows that brings maximal daylight to the core with a minimal waste of energy is just one feature in the progressive design.
The building has already been acknowledged on multiple occasions for its strategic design.
In April 2011 researchers and students will start to use the building.

Tower coming up

Constructions of a117 meter tall hotel and office building in Kista, Stockholm, have begun. The tower will rise almost 150 above sea level, which will make it the tallest house in Stockholm.
A ceremonial blast on the 5th of November inaugurated the erection of the tower.
The upper ten stories of the 33 in total will contain offices. Opening is planned to the middle of 2011. A triangular mosaic of eight different glass types will make the building shimmer in the night as well as in daylight.
