In the middle of an industrial area outside Borås, an architectural landmark and social meeting point for the local community suddenly rises up.

Viared Center is nominated for Årets Bygge (Building of the Year) 2024 in the Hotel and Office category. Årets Bygge is the construction and property sector's most prestigious award, presented annually by the trade magazine Byggindustrin.

Viared Center is a new hub for companies and employees in the growing business park west of Borås. A timber building with a lush, light-filled courtyard, it functions not only as an office building but also as a welcoming centre with a restaurant, hairdresser, gym, 24/7 shop and roof terrace.

The article presenting Viared Center as a candidate for Årets Bygge notes, among other things, that the overhang was one of the factors that pushed the project toward new and innovative thinking from a structural perspective, and that Åke Björsell's visionary outlook combined with Wingårdhs' architecture helped create a unique building in an unexpected setting. It also highlights several standout features of Viared Center — not least its construction technology and its combination of timber, steel and concrete.

Årets Bygge is presented by the trade magazine Byggindustrin. The award goes to a single building project completed during the previous year that has stayed within budget, maintained high workplace safety, and created added value.
