The jury's citation: "With transparency as its guiding principle, the project has made a point of sharing knowledge that benefits the industry as a whole — even with competitors. In doing so, significant innovations such as transparent solar cells, reused sandwich panels, and a shared geothermal energy plant have been carried forward and developed further by others. The winner in the Hotel and Office category of Årets Bygge (Building of the Year) 2025 is Fyrtornet."

We are proud and honoured to have been part of the team awarded Täby stadsbyggnadspris (Täby Urban Development Award) 2024.
This year marks 25 years since the Swedish Embassy in Berlin was inaugurated, standing side by side with its Nordic neighbours.
We are incredibly proud that the office building at Östra Strandgatan 24 in Umeå has achieved Miljöbyggnad Guld (Environmental Building Gold) certification!
The building is located between central Umeå and the University City, in a calm setting with a fantastic view over the Ume River. The development is part of the overarching vision of tying the city together — connecting the riverside area with the city centre and further out towards Östra Station and the university.
The building's high sustainability profile, combined with expressive architecture, shows that it is possible to build in a way that is modern, attractive and sustainable all at once.
A few success factors:
A well-considered mix of structural materials built around a cross-laminated timber (CLT) system, giving the building its strong formal expression while reducing the climate impact of production.
A smart design that both protects against the sun and doubles as façade, providing a superior indoor environment while preserving good views even in strong sunlight.
Innovative solutions for energy efficiency and environmental protection.
Flexibility in the floor plans, allowing a mix of large and small tenants while also increasing the building's lifespan and reducing its environmental impact over time.
An interior dominated by natural materials such as stone and wood.
But the greatest success factor was integrating sustainability solutions into the building's overall concept from the start. Ongoing calculations and measures helped us stay focused, combined with excellent collaboration between all parties involved.
Many thanks to everyone involved!

The vision for Embassy of Sharing is to create an inclusive and forward-thinking environment for collaboration and knowledge exchange — a unique meeting place for all of Malmö.
An extensive timber structure combined with advanced technical solutions makes Fyrtornet an example of good architecture with a low climate footprint, and one of the first buildings to fall below LFM30's threshold values, in line with the Paris Agreement's goal of net-zero CO2 emissions by 2030.
Now, at last, it's time for the building to fill with people and bring the urban space to life. Commercial activity is mixed with culture and a library, which together with a public foyer create encounters between different groups.

Topasen 3 is part of central Täby Park — a rapidly growing district just north of Stockholm. The area is being transformed from a former horse racing track into a modern district that combines urban life with proximity to nature.
More than 200 new homes, in the form of apartments and urban townhouses, are now ready to be filled with everyday life in the new neighbourhood. The architecture blends modern and timeless elements, offering housing types suited to a broad demographic.
We are proud and pleased to have taken part in a project marked by innovation and learning, where rational modular construction is combined with architectural quality, rich detailing and solid materials. We are even more pleased to contribute good residential qualities to a place that offers a harmonious balance between the pulse of the city and the calm of nature.

The exhibition 'The Great Repair Moves North' at Form/Design Center in Malmö sheds light on the tension between ecological balance and unchecked growth, advocating for a new architectural ethos centred on repair.
Wingårdhs and Skanska have been commissioned, together with the City, to develop the planned multi-sport building in the northern part of the area.
"We are now strengthening the Stadium area's position not only as the obvious centre of sport in Malmö, but also nationally. The new multi-sport building now taking shape will play a major role in the future of the area and of Malmö, and will become a house of sport for generations of Malmö residents who want to realise their dreams," says Katrin Stjernfeldt Jammeh (S), Chair of the Malmö City Executive Board.
The building will include, among other things, a full-size football pitch, a basketball hall, training facilities, a gym, concept housing, teaching facilities for an upper secondary school, and office space.
For many years, the Stadium area has been an important site for sport, education and events in Malmö. Today, close to 80 associations, sports federations, school activities and sport-related businesses are represented in the area. The new multi-sport building is expected to be completed as early as 2027.
"We are pleased and proud to be working on a building that will mean a great deal to the people of Malmö in the future," says Joakim Lyth, architect at Wingårdhs. "The multi-sport building becomes a new landmark, meeting both the scales and forms of its surroundings in an undulating shape. The design draws on the best qualities of the three surrounding districts, each with its own distinctly Malmö character."
From a distance, it reads as a sculptural solitaire — a new icon building for the Stadium area. Up close, it is a sensory building with warm materials, its design ensuring that, despite its size and long façades, it contributes to street life through its variation, openness and attention to everyday use.
The exterior design concept is built on a clear division between the sharp, white silhouette above and the stable base meeting the ground below — two different logics and needs united in a whole with a clear formal language.

Today Architects Sweden announced the nominations for the 2018 Kasper Salin Prize, and two of the four are Wingårdh projects.
“It is both a great honor and incredibly gratifying that we got these nominations,” says Gert Wingårdh. “Malmö Saluhall and Nationalmuseum are two separate projects with several similarities. We were given the task of refining and renovating on both projects, and both have been big successes with the public. It’s particularly rewarding to see that visitors are coming in—they’re the ones we’re designing for. I’m both happy and proud.”
Nationalmuseum, on Blasieholmen in Stockholm, was designed by Berlin architect Friedrich August Stüler, and his original drawings were the basis for a collaborative effort between Wingårdh and architect Erik Wikerstål to open up, restore, and modernize the building. Since the museum reopened in October 2018 it has attracted hundreds of thousands of visitors and received several honors.
The old freight warehouse west of Malmö Central Station was no more than a roofless shell when the siblings Nina Totté Karyd and Martin Karyd bought it for the purpose of creating a market hall. In 2013 they hired Wingårdh Architects to transform the ruin into a marketplace for about twenty merchants and restaurateurs.
“The fact that the market hall has been nominated shows that a building’s design and function play a significant role in the city,” says Maria Lyth, Wingårdh’s lead architect on the project. “The market hall gives the city more than just a popular building; it has also created new public spaces in a formerly abandoned area. Together with Nina and Martin and the stakeholders in the building we’ve been able to create a new destination in Malmö. We got to bring the clients’ dream to life, which has been so much fun.”
Every year Architects Sweden awards the Kasper Salin Prize to a Swedish building or group of buildings of high architectural quality. Wingårdh Architects has been nominated thirteen times and won the prize on five of those occasions.
The winner will be announced at the organization’s Architecture Gala on March 19.

“The sea is a precondition for life on earth,” says Gert Wingårdh, principal architect for a shimmering blue building meant to serve as a hub for the United Nations initiative Our Ocean, Our Future: Call for Action, and a manifestation of the political momentum that has developed for saving the world’s seas.
The two architecture firms of Wingårdh and Wikerstål were jointly commissioned to plan the comprehensive renovation of Nationalmuseum in 2012, and the following year the building closed and the reconstruction began. The architects’ brief was to create a museum that would be functional over the long term.

The hotel at Nybrokajen 9 has a long history of late nights and early mornings. In the early twentieth century one could run into movie stars like Greta Garbo or Ingrid Bergman in the bar there, and in the late sixties it was home to Sweden’s first international nightclub, Alexandra’s. Today, over a hundred years after it first opened, the hotel has a newly tailored suit and is once again ready to dance.

“In a bold and confident way, and with a built-in faith in man’s inner power, this project creates the conditions for unexpected meetings.” The City of Malmö’s design jury has awarded The Embassy of Sharing, designed by Midroc Property Development and Wingårdh Architects, first place in the land allocation agreement competition for the last downtown lot in the city’s Hyllie district.
